Talking with Bev has really shown us that life in high school then is not as different than the way high school is now. Bev remembers many social groups "clicks" that are similar to the friend groups that are today.
Bev looks back on her fun senior skip day called "Dress-up Day" where they would be excused to leave class to dress up goofy and parade around town. Now days we also have a "senior skip day" but unlike then it is not sanctioned by the school.
It was really fun for us to talk with her about the way things were then compared to the way they are now. However, Bev also recalls girls being separated from guys. She told us that in her day only boys were allowed to take Wood shop and only girls were allowed to take Home Ec. She looks back in disgust at the club she joined called The Future Homemakers of America. Things are run a little differently now days and we have really come to appreciate that we are allowed to take whatever classes we want. Also now girls are considered equal to boys which is something that wasn't the "norm" in Bev's day.
